Artificial Intelligence in higher humanities management education: new horizons or hidden risks?

Abstract

This article examines and analyzes the ethical, socio-cultural, technological, and behavioral aspects of implementing artificial intelligence in a humanities university. The introduction of AI into higher education, while becoming a success factor and expanding educational opportunities, also creates the problem of depersonalization of the educational process, the spread of academic dishonesty, and the emergence of new risks for humanities knowledge.

The aim of this study is to comprehensively analyze the transformation of the educational process in the humanities in the context of AI implementation, as well as to identify key benefits and threats. To achieve this goal, the following objectives were set: determining the level and forms of student and academic engagement in the use of neural networks, studying the ethical, socio-cultural, and behavioral aspects of academic integrity, and assessing the changing role of the instructor in a modern AI environment. A sociological questionnaire survey conducted among students (n450) and expert interviews with faculty (5 experts) at the Ural Institute of Management — a branch of RANEPA — revealed both the positive aspects of AI implementation and the communicative, sociocultural, and ethical challenges associated with the mass transition to a new format of education in the context of AI. The study’s key findings demonstrate that most students regularly utilize AI tools to optimize their learning routines, while their critical attitude toward AI-generated content remains low. The expert community expresses concern about a possible decline in students’ independent analytical and critical thinking skills. However, the study also revealed new horizons: the potential of AI lies in the technologization of learning, the automation of factual verification, and the enhancement of the role and value of mentors in live communication with students. To minimize these risks, the legalization of AI use in the educational process is required, with clear ethical standards and an emphasis on developing skills in prompt engineering and information verification. In conclusion, the authors offer a set of practical recommendations for further improvement of the AI environment in a humanities university.
