Abstract
The relevance of A.P. Chekhov’s novella “A Dreary Story” with the subtitle “From the Notebooks of an Old Man” is revealed in why the famous professor and a very successful lecturer fades from natural old age and illness, loses ties with the outside world and falls into the abyss and emptiness of indifference. The article analyzes the problem of lecturer skill and addresses the philosophical reflection of individual features of higher mathematics teachers. It defines the role of critical reflection in the aesthetic phenomenon of a good university lecture on mathematics in the formation of student’s critical thinking.
