Abstract
The article analyzes the academic staff of the state universities in Russia, identifies the trends in social and cultural development in qualitative and quantitative characteristics (qualification, age, staff position etc.) Study is based on state and ministry educational statistics using both traditional indicators and the indicators proposed by the author.
