University rankings as instruments for reforming of higher education in global context

Abstract

Examined is the problem of promotion of universities in international and national rankings. Analysis of basic foreign as well as Russian rankings of Nizhny Novgorod region’s universities is presented. Also reviewed is impact of the new model of innovation economy, education and business, i.e. regional scientific and innovation clusters on competitive positions of universities. Conclusion is that clusters may become a fundamental breakthrough mechanism for promotion of Russian universities in global world rankings.
