On the prospects of the project to create an industrial postgraduate school in Russia

Abstract

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment in our country of such a method of training highly qualified scientific personnel as postgraduate studies. For the accelerated scientific and technological development of our country and increase our innovation potential, it is important to create effective mechanisms for cooperation between university science and national businesses. One of the important projects in this field, the implementation of which is currently being actively discussed at various levels, is the creation of an industrial postgraduate school in the Russian Federation. With the help of this tool, industry can obtain qualified research personnel, and educational institutions will increase the effectiveness of training programs through better motivation of teachers and graduate students, as well as the possibility of practical testing of scientific hypotheses in the conditions of existing industrial production. When implementing a project to create an industrial postgraduate school, it is necessary to use not only on the similar experience of foreign countries, but also on the existing successful developments in the field of scientific and industrial cooperation from the history of the USSR. As part of the analysis, an interpretation of the planned postgraduate production model from the perspective of the ‘principal–agent’ problem is formulated, and proposals are made to adjust existing postgraduate student training practices and organize the defense of PhD theses.
