Hirsh Index and evaluation of scientist’s contribution to science

Presented is detailed analysis of the mostly widespread in the world bibliometric indicator of scientists’ activity, i.e. Hirsh Index (h-index). Given is description of Hirsh Index foreshortened it’s rating evaluation of scientist’s contribution to science. Also comparison is made of that index with traditional methodology of expert evaluation of scientific activity. Highlighted is a number of shortages of evaluation of scientist’s contribution to science by Hirsh Index. In particular, shown is, that the names index hasn’t any attached to it qualities, supposedly permitting to evaluate scientist’s contribution to science. In connection with that, the author says, there is necessity to deny using of that and other questionable bibliometric indicators and return to traditional expert evaluation of scientific activity.
