Abstract
Lapta is a traditional folk pastime — a game that requires players to possess exceptional physical abilities, a strong team spirit, and the right emotional attitude. Lapta has ancient roots. Different peoples call it by different names, but the principles of the game remain roughly the same; at the same time, Russian lapta has its own unique features and distinctive regional characteristics. In our country, lapta is developing not only as a folk game but also as a competitive sport, and it is included in the All-Russian Classification of Sports Games. This article examines the historical roots of the Russian lapta, its current status, and, in addition, assesses the popularity of lapta in the Republic of Buryatia and describes an experiment conducted to organize a traditional game as part of an educational project module.
