Abstract

National development readiness can be understood as the extent to which a region or community possesses the capacities, institutional systems, and structural conditions required to transform investments and policy initiatives into sustainable, human-centred improvements in quality of life and economic productivity. This study assesses the determinants of development readiness in Ethiopia. To examine these determinants, the study uses secondary data from the World Bank Development Indicators and the Human Development Index database. The analysis is based on descriptive statistics and an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) regression model. The results indicate a positive and statistically significant relationship between GDP growth and the Human Development Index (HDI), suggesting that economic growth contributes to human development. The findings also show that political stability is positively associated with human development. Similarly, internet use is positively and significantly associated with human development in Ethiopia in both the long run and the short run. Expanding internet access in countries such as Ethiopia therefore has important socioeconomic implications and should be considered a priority for human development policy.
